How Long Does AviClear Last?

If you’re considering AviClear, you’re probably wondering how long the results actually last. It’s a fair question, especially if you’re investing in your skin and want to make sure it’s worth it. The truth is, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer—but we can give you both the clinical perspective and, more importantly, what we’ve seen firsthand with our patients at Collab Medspa.

The Short Answer (What We Tell Patients)

The short answer we give in consultations is simple: we don’t fully know yet. Current research shows that AviClear results last at least two years, and studies are still ongoing. However, what’s exciting is what we’re seeing in real life. We’ve had AviClear in our practice for about three years now, and many of our patients are still clear at the two- and even three-year mark. Some have come back for a small touch-up, but their acne never fully returned. Instead, they might notice an occasional breakout and want to fine-tune their results, which is very similar to how other laser treatments work.

What We’re Seeing at Collab MedSpa

One of the most valuable things about offering AviClear for several years is being able to track real patient outcomes over time. Many of our clients remain clear long after their initial treatment series. In fact, a lot of our younger patients leave for college and then come back to visit us—and their skin is still doing great. Most of them aren’t coming back for acne concerns. Instead, they’re coming in for facials or to restock their skincare, which says a lot about how well their results have held up.

Real Patient Story: Severe Acne to Total Confidence

One of our favorite examples is a patient who came to us with severe acne. Like many people, it wasn’t just about her skin—it affected her confidence, her social life, and how she showed up every day. After completing AviClear, her skin completely transformed. But even more than that, her confidence changed in a way that’s hard to put into words. She’s now about two years out from treatment, still clear, and hasn’t needed a touch-up. She’s away at college now, but she comes in when she’s home to restock her skincare. Honestly, it’s one of those stories that reminds us why we do what we do.

Real Patient Story: Trusting the Process

On the other hand, not every journey is instant, and that’s important to understand. We had a patient recently at about four months into his AviClear journey who felt frustrated because he was still experiencing breakouts. When we compared his current photos to where he started, the progress was incredible. Even though he didn’t feel like it was working, his skin had improved so much. Acne can be emotional, and sometimes it’s hard to see progress day to day. That’s why we always remind patients that AviClear is a process, and results continue to improve over time—especially around the six- to twelve-month mark.

What Determines How Long AviClear Lasts?

From our experience, a few key factors make a big difference in how long results last. First, consistency with skincare is huge. It really doesn’t make sense to invest in a treatment like AviClear and then not protect that investment with professional-grade skincare. Second, daily habits matter more than people think. Simple things like washing your face after workouts, cleaning your makeup brushes, and changing your pillowcases regularly all play a role. Lastly, every patient’s skin is different. Some start with mild acne, while others are more severe, so we always create a personalized plan that fits their skin and their lifestyle.

The Biggest Mistake We See

One of the biggest mistakes we see is patients not staying consistent after treatment or expecting results too quickly. Some people get discouraged around the four- or five-month mark if they’re still breaking out and end up turning to harsh medications or topicals. But what they’re forgetting is that AviClear takes time. Results build gradually, and if they stayed consistent with a good skincare routine and maintenance treatments like facials, their skin would likely continue to improve.

Do You Need Touch-Ups?

When it comes to touch-ups, we see them as normal—but not something most people need right away. After the initial three treatments, we typically recommend waiting at least five to six months to let the full results develop. In some cases, especially with more severe acne, we may suggest an additional treatment or two early on. However, most patients will not need to repeat the full series. A single touch-up, if anything, is usually enough.

Is AviClear Permanent?

The honest answer is that we’re still learning. But based on what we’ve seen, the results can be long-lasting and, in many cases, life-changing. We’re hopeful that with the right skincare and habits, AviClear can be a long-term solution for acne. And even if a touch-up is needed down the road, it’s typically minor—not starting over from scratch.

Is AviClear Right for You?

If you’ve been struggling with acne and feel like you’ve tried everything, AviClear could be the turning point. More importantly, we’re here to guide you through a plan that works for your skin long-term. Because clear skin isn’t just about one treatment—it’s about having the right strategy and support.
